R717 Thermosiphon Oil Cooling

Convert an explicit screw-compressor oil heat load into ammonia thermosiphon circulation, vapor generation, liquid return and added condenser duty—without pretending to size the natural-circulation loop.

WHEN TO USE THIS TOOL

Useful during reference & conversion work.

  • Resolve unit-system differences quickly across calculations, drawings, schedules and vendor data.
  • Look up common formulas, constants and engineering reminders without leaving the HVACR workspace.
  • Reduce repeated manual conversion work while keeping the final engineering review with the user.

Frequently asked questions

Does this size a thermosiphon piping loop?

No. It calculates only the R717 heat/mass balance. Natural-circulation driving head, two-phase pressure drop, pipe size, receiver elevation/level and stable circulation require separate engineering.

What return vapor quality should I enter?

Use the applicable OEM or engineered design basis. HVACR Studio intentionally provides no recommended quality or circulation ratio.

Can the oil-cooling duty be calculated from compressor power?

Not by this tool. Oil heat rejection is compressor- and operating-condition-specific. Enter the applicable OEM/design duty or calculate it from explicit oil mass flow, oil specific heat and oil temperature drop.

Does this oil-cooling load affect the condenser?

In the bounded steady-state model, yes. The heat absorbed from the oil returns to the high side and adds the same heat quantity to condenser rejection, neglecting line/environmental heat transfer.
