R744 / CO₂ · EJECTOR WORK RECOVERY

Vapor Ejector Architecture Analysis

Evaluate an explicit CO₂ ejector operating point instead of assuming that ejectors always improve performance. Track entrainment, pressure lift, receiver vapor/liquid split, main and parallel compressor burden, theoretical COP and a bounded work-recovery feasibility screen.

Architecture model
  1. The existing R744 transcritical and flash-receiver property models establish evaporator, receiver, high-side and compressor reference states.
  2. One unit of gas-cooler outlet motive flow entrains the entered suction/motive mass ratio from the evaporator outlet.
  3. Adiabatic ejector mixing establishes the receiver-inlet enthalpy; equilibrium separation produces receiver vapor and liquid.
  4. Receiver liquid feeds the evaporator. Receiver vapor goes to the parallel compressor. The evaporator vapor not entrained by the ejector goes to the main compressor.
  5. The work-recovery screen compares isentropic motive expansion potential with the isentropic lift required for the entrained secondary stream at receiver pressure.
  6. Direct-transcritical and conventional parallel-compression COP/power are shown only as same-condition theoretical references.
WHEN TO USE THIS TOOL

Useful during reference & conversion work.

  • Resolve unit-system differences quickly across calculations, drawings, schedules and vendor data.
  • Look up common formulas, constants and engineering reminders without leaving the HVACR workspace.
  • Reduce repeated manual conversion work while keeping the final engineering review with the user.

Frequently asked questions

What ejector architecture is modeled?

A bounded vapor-ejector architecture in which gas-cooler outlet motive flow entrains part of the evaporator suction stream, discharges to an intermediate receiver, sends receiver vapor to a parallel compressor and receiver liquid back to the evaporator.

Does the tool optimize entrainment ratio or pressure?

No. Entrainment ratio, receiver pressure, high-side pressure and ejector efficiency are explicit engineer-entered assumptions. HVACR Studio evaluates that point only.

What does ejector efficiency mean here?

It is a work-recovery screening definition: the isentropic secondary-stream lift associated with the entered entrainment ratio is compared with the isentropic motive expansion potential. It is not an OEM nozzle/diffuser efficiency map.

Does a higher theoretical COP mean I should select the ejector system?

No. The comparison is conditional and thermodynamic. Actual ejector maps, compressor maps, controls, pressure losses, ambient conditions, safety requirements, cost and serviceability remain external engineering inputs.
